Heavyweights Pat Barry and Stefan Struve are set to battle at UFC on Versus 6 according to mmaweekly.com. Scott Jorgensen prepares to welcome Jeff Curran back into the UFC in a bantamweight bout according to mmaweekly.com.
Barry (6-3), a vaunted K-1 kick boxer, has been inconsistent since his arrival to the UFC. "HD" has gone 3-3 in his current UFC run, unable to string wins together. In his last bout, he took on Cheick Kongo at UFC on Versus 4. After knocking down the Frenchman twice in quick succession, Barry was on the receiving end of a Kongo counter punch that knocked him out cold.
Struve (21-5) saw his two fight win streak snapped by a knockout loss to Travis Browne at UFC 130. Struve is 5-3 in the UFC and will look to rebound against Barry.
It is notable to point out that 14 of Struve's 21 victories come from submissions. As such, for the 6' 11 "Skyscraper" taking the fight to the ground against the talented striker in Barry would not be a bad idea, the ground game being the only noticeable hole in Barry's skill set.
UFC on Versus 6 will be held on October 1, 2011 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The event is headlined by Dominick Cruz defending his title against Demetrious Johnson.
Jorgensen (12-4) is fresh off of a knockout win over Ken Stone at the Ultimate Fighter finale season 13. Jorgensen's most recent loss comes at the hands of the UFC's current bantamweight champion, Cruz, whom he was defeated by via unanimous decision. With that one blemish aside, Jorgensen is 6-1 in his last seven fights.
Curran (33-13-1) is riding a two fight win streak en route to returning to the UFC after debuting with the promotion at UFC 46. "Big Frog" will need to put his 13 year fight experience to good use as he faces a former title contender and a top ranked bantamweight in Jorgensen. Curran is a veteran of the fight game, fighting in the local circuit as well as established promotions such as the WEC or Strikeforce. Curran is 4-1 in his last five fights, winning three of them via decisions.
UFC 137 will be held on October 29, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining is George St. Pierre defending his welterweight title against former Strikeforce welterweight champion, Nick Diaz.
