The second UFC event to air live on Versus was officially announced today by the promotion. The long-rumored was confirmed to take place on August 1 at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, which will mark the promotion's first foray in Utah.
This newly announced event is the second of two contracted UFC live events to air on Versus for 2010, as a clause in the new WEC/Versus contract that was signed earlier this year stated that two UFC events must be shown on Versus in 2010. The UFC's first live event on Versus took place on March 21 at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.
Included in today's announcement of the event was the unveiling of the two featured bouts on the card. Headlining the event is a light-heavyweight bout between fast-rising phenom Jon Jones and 12-year veteran Vladimir Matyushenko.
In the night's co-main event, rising middleweight contenders Yushin Okami and Mark Munoz will look to climb further into contention when they battle it out.
Shortly after the announcement of the event, and its two featured bouts, the UFC confirmed six more previously announced fights for the card, including two bouts to complete the televised main card portion of the card, and four bouts officially added to the prelims.
Rounding out the main card is a welterweight bout between up-and-comers John Howard and Jake Ellenberger, as well as a lightweight tilt featuring Joe Stevenson and Takanori Gomi.
The bouts officially announced for the un-aired preliminary portion of UFC on Versus 2 include; light-heavyweights James Irvin vs. Igor Pokrajac, middleweights Mike Massenzio vs. Brian Stann,
welterweights DaMarques Johnson vs. Matthew Riddle, and middleweights Rob Kimmons vs. Steve Steinbeiss.
August is a busy month for the UFC, as the promotion has three events on tap for the month. After UFC on Versus 2, the two other as-of-yet unannounced events include UFC 117 on August 7 in Oakland, and UFC 118 on August 28 in Boston.
