UFC puts on full court press to court Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic
by Jason Benfari on July 03, 2009

Just this week, we reported that UFC President Dana White had softened his stance regarding Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic's UFC prospects. White was initially upset with the Croatian superstar after the two came to terms on a verbal agreement for Filipovic to appear in three UFC fights.

After his first fight at UFC 99 however, word that Filipovic had signed with DREAM began circulating and White balked, claiming that Filipovic had stabbed him in the back. Filipovic denied signing anything with DREAM however and it appears that the two subsequently worked things out privately behind the scenes. White recently told ESPN radio that he was still open to signing Filipovic to a contract extension and hinted that talks were underway.

Today, Index.hr, a Croatian website, is reporting that UFC Owner Lorenzo Fertitta flew out on his private jet to meet with Filipovic. They reportedly spoke for two hours with Fertitta extending Filipovic an offer that "he'd have a hard time refusing". No specific numbers were revealed but sources indicated that both men were all smiles toward the end of the meeting.

We'll have more on this breaking story as details continue to emerge.
