UK MMA: Ultimate Challenge MMA Resurrection preview
by Joe Rimmer on February 02, 2010

Whilst hall of famers Randy Couture and Mark Coleman prepare to face off at UFC 109 across the pond the UK's premier promotion, Ultimate Challenge MMA, will be putting on its first show of the year, Resurrection, headlined by a bout between TUF 9 alumni Dean Amasinger and Alberto Mina.

The two welterweights will square off with Brazilian Mina defending not only his welterweight title belt, but a perfect 7-0 MMA record. The BJJ black belt is a submission specialist and fights out of London Shootfighters.

Amasinger, 6-1, was eliminated by DeMarques Johnson in the quarter final round of TUF US vs. UK. The 25 year old is riding a six fight win streak and trains out of Nottingham's Rough House Gym, alongside UFC welterweight contenders Dan Hardy and Paul Daley.

The UK middleweight title will be on the line in a clash between veterans Mark 'The Beast' Epstein and former UFC star Mark 'The Wizard' Weir. Both men have fought a 'who's who' of British MMA with 61 fights between them.

Epstein, 14-11, hasn't fought since 2008 and is a veteran of the now defunct Cage Rage promotion. He comes off a loss to Matt Ewin,

Weir, 19-16, boasts three fights with the UFC in 2002/03 going 1-2 with the promotion, with a ten second KO over Eugene Jackson the highlight. He has defeats to Paul Daley, Denis Kang and Matt Lindland.

Another title is on the line as light heavyweights Valentino Petrescu and Jamie Hearn collide.

Hearn 3-4, halted a three fight losing streak with a KO in just over a minute against Tam Khan in December. Petrescu holds a 7-0 record with five KO's. However he hasn't fought since 2008.

Another interesting bout is between UK ranked heavyweight Stav 'Crazy Bear' Economou and Shola Adeniran.

Economou sports a 9-1 record with seven KO's. He is a highly regarded prospect and comes off a decision victory over Linton Vassell in November.

Adeniran has just one fight to his name, a win over the same fighter Economou defeated, Vassell, coming way back in 2008.

Undefeated Czech Karlos Vemola will also be in action as he puts his 6-0 record on the line against Peter Yandel. Vemola holds a notable win over the aforementioned Economou.

The event is set to take place in Troxy, London and is to be screened live on Sky Sports, as British MMA continues to gain exposure. For a full fight list visit www.ultimatechallengeuk.com
