A heavyweight bout between newly-signed undefeated heavyweight prospect Travis Browne and The Ultimate Fighter 10 cast member James McSweeney has been verbally agreed upon for a UFC event in June. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
According to the report, the bout will likely take place either at UFC 115, which is scheduled potentially for June 12 (at the GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada), or at TUF 11 Finale, which takes place on June 19 in Las Vegas.
Browne is fresh off of a first-round knockout win over veteran Aaron Brink at Gladiator Challenge: "Vision Quest" on Feb. 21, where he captured the promotion's interim Gladiator Challenge heavyweight title. He previously scored an eight-second knockout win over McSweeney's fellow TUF 10 cast member Abe Wagner at Victory Fighting Championship 30 on Feb. 5.
Browne has competed for other notable promotions such as King of the Cage, Cage of Fire and Bellator Fighting Championships. He has put together a 9-0 MMA record since making his pro debut last February, scoring stoppages in all but one of his nine wins, including seven coming by TKO or KO. Browne holds other notable career wins over Michael Westbrook and Mychal Clark.
Browne can get some advice on the UFC jitters from his teammates, as he currently trains at the Alliance Training Center in California with UFC light-heavyweight Brandon Vera, UFC heavyweight Joey Beltran, as well as WEC bantamweight contender Dominick Cruz.
McSweeney (4-4) most recently scored a third-round TKO win over fellow TUF 10 competitor Darrill Schoonover in his official UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in December 2009. Prior to the win, he lost two straight fights against Ricardo Romero and UFC veteran Neil Grove.
The Cage Rage Ring of Combat veteran has finished all of his four career wins by TKO or KO. He is also an accomplished kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter, amassing an impressive 136-9 combined record in multiple kickboxing organizations.
