Last week, Dan Henderson traveled to Las Vegas in order to attempt to settle his new fight contract with the UFC. However, not much was settled, and Henderson still remains without a contract.
According to Sports Illustrated's Josh Gross, the upcoming fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort "doesn't sit real well with" Henderson. Belfort was recently given a title shot after his win over Rich Franklin at UFC 103.
"I guess a guy that I beat gets to jump to the front of the time," said Henderson. Henderson defeated Belfort by unanimous decision in 2006.
Months ago, the winner of the UFC 100 bout between Henderson and Michael Bisping was promised a title shot against Silva. Henderson won that bout and was supposedly given a title shot. However, in a post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White had changed his mind. Then, a month and a half later, White promised a title shot to the winner of Nate Marquardt vs. Demian Maia at UFC 102.
In a last-ditch effort to rectify the situation, White and UFC matchmaker, Joe Silva, have offered up Henderson vs. Marquardt as a title contention bout. The winner of that fight will then face Silva.
However, Henderson wants a rematch with Silva for the title like he was promised, and is not going to let the White go back on his word. The UFC management is looking to close the deal with Henderson soon, but until they can remedy the situation and meet his needs, Henderson will not sign a contract.
