Former WEC featherweight champion, Urijah Faber, is just one fight away from another title shot. If he can defeat former WEC bantamweight champion, Brian Bowles, at UFC 139 then "The California Kid" will meet Dominick Cruz for the third time according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.
"He's one of the world champions that not many people have heard of. For the fans it's not as big of a deal but for me, knowing how tough he is, I know it's going to be a good fight. He's fast but he's not as fast as I am. He's strong but I don't think he's as strong as I am," Faber said.
Faber (25-5) acknowledges Bowles' solid grappling skills, Bowles finished six of his 10 victories from submission, but believes that his own experience and creativity will be the edge he needs to win this fight.
Faber's last bout was a rematch with the UFC bantamweight champion, Cruz. Despite a Fight of the Night performance from both men, it was Cruz who emerged victorious to retain his title. Faber has always tested himself against top level competition and his fight with Cruz was just one of the three title fights in Faber's last six bouts. Faber currently sits at 2-1 over three fights.
"I gotta find a way to finish him because he's a hard guy to finish and I need to make a statement," Faber added.
Faber vs. Bowles will be apart of the main card at UFC 139 on November 19, 2011 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The winner of the match up will get a crack at Cruz's UFC bantamweight title. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight bout pitting Mauricio Rua against Dan Henderson.
