Urijah Faber signs new multi-fight deal with WEC
by Natalia Baage on October 06, 2009

Even though rumors were in the air about Urijah Faber switching to another organization, those rumors were put to rest as Faber recently signed a multi-fight contract with the WEC.

According to MMAjunkie.com, Reed Harris, WEC's general manager, had been discussing a re-signing with Faber for months, and that the rumors that Faber was going to switch organizations was over-exaggerated.

In the new contract, Reed said, both the organization and Faber had imperative requirements that they wanted met. While the details of those requirements are not available, both parties have agreed on a contract that is suitable for all.

Faber (22-3 MMA, 7-2 WEC) is expected to return to action by the end of the year. He is coming off of a hand injury, which he suffered in June when he fought current WEC champion Mike Brown. Reed said that he would like to see Faber back at the top of the featherweight division, but said that he must at least get a few wins under his belt before he is given a title shot.

"The doctor cleared his hand," said Harris. "Urijah healed really, really quickly. I heard it was about twice as fast as a normal human being. He's got that hyperbaric chamber thing going, and he told me, ‘Reed, I'm not *expletive* you. This thing works. I spent time in this hyperbaric chamber.' The doctor said he healed at twice the rate. Of course, he's a really, really healthy dude."

Faber became the WEC featherweight champion in March 2006 at WEC 19 when he TKO-ed Cole Escovedo. Faber went on to defend his title five times before eventually losing it to Mike Brown in Nov. 2008 at WEC 36. He has fought twice since losing his title; a submission victory over Jens Pulver at WEC 38 this past Jan., and a rematch and title shot unanimous decision loss against Mike Brown in June, where he injured his hand.
