Chael Sonnen said that he would like to take Dan Henderson's place against Nate Marquardt if Henderson does not intend on fighting. The bout is rumored to take place on Jan. 2 at UFC 108.
Sonnen is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Yushin Okami at UFC 104 two days ago, with a performance that he called "my best performance ever." The UFC agreed with this evaluation, and said that he might be in the mix for a title shot.
"I'm not in here to be famous or to get on TV or to make a bunch of money," said Sonnen. "I'm in here - I'm after a belt. It's 12 pounds and the color of gold. And that's it."
"Whoever's got the belt, I'm coming after," he said.
Sonnen said that he would not be adverse to fighting Rich Franklin at the catch weight of 195 lbs., as the two have had problems for years.
Sonnen (24-10-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC) has fought in the Octagon three times in 2009, emerging with a 2-1 record. In Febrauary, at UFC 95, he suffered a submission loss to Demian Maia. However, he won his next two fights by unanimous decision, beating Dan Miller in May at UFC 98, and Okami this past weekend at UFC 104.
