Vitor Belfort says that the UFC is becoming the new passion of the Brazilian people according to mmamania.com.
"They said that soccer was the passion of our people but the UFC is taking over. I'm so glad to be a part of the past, the present and the future. And in the future, the UFC is going to be mainstream everywhere," Belfort said.
The UFC has made great effort in turning the sport of MMA into a global phenomenon. Perhaps none more evident than the recent announcement of the first ever international Ultimate Fighter taking place in Brazil with Belfort coaching opposite of Wanderlei Silva. TUF Brazil is set to debut on March 25, 2012 with 12 episodes and a finale matching up the opposing coaches.
The UFC's last event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was UFC 134 on August 27 which sold out its tickets in just 74 minutes. The upcoming featherweight title bout pitting Jose Aldo against challenger, Chad Mendes, is set for UFC 142 on January 14, 2012 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
