Vitor Belfort has been a busy man lately as he feverishly prepares for his upcoming August 6 bout with Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 according to tatame.com.
Belfort has been training at Xtreme Couture where he is sharpening his boxing skills with Gil Martinez and his ground game with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world champion, Gilbert "Durinho" Burns.
"I'm going back to my roots, working my techniques with ‘Durinho' and I've remembered things I've learned from Carlson Gracie, things that many people don't usually do, but I had the chance to train with him. I'm glad...Natural gymnastic is making me pretty fast, fast in boxing, fast with my legs," Belfort said.
Belfort sees his bout with Akiyama as the first in his road to a rematch with Anderson Silva.
Silva is slated to make his ninth title defense against Yushin Okami at UFC 134.
"Anderson has many advantages over Okami. Each bout is different, but I believe Anderson is much better I guess Okami won't bring any danger while striking and Anderson has a good ground game," Belfort said who believes that Silva will likely be the victor in the bout.
Nicknamed "The Phenom", Belfort is 19-9 with his last bout being defeated by Silva at their middleweight title fight at UFC 126. Prior to the Silva loss, Belfort was riding a five fight win streak. Of his victories, 13 have come from tko/ko stoppages that have made Belfort a fan favorite.
UFC 133 is headlined by a light heavyweight title contention eliminator between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis. Belfort vs. Akiyama is a part of the main card which also features Rich Franklin fighting Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Strikers Jorge Rivera and Alessio Sakara will battle in a middleweight bout. Rory MacDonald set to fight Mike Pyle.
