WEC 41 news and notes
by Jacob Camargo on June 08, 2009

WEC 41 is officially a wrap. Here are some interesting notes that followed the event:

-WEC 41 drew 13,027 fans for a live gate of $818,415 according to WEC co-founder and general manager Reed Harris at the post-event press conference. The California State Athletic Commission will release the accurate figures later this week. If Harris' numbers are close, WEC 41 would have bested the previous attendance and live gate records of WEC 34 set in June of 2008. WEC 34 also took place at the ARCO Arena and brought in 12,682 attendees for a live gate of $738,855. The event featured the first fight between Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver.

-Mike Brown, Urijah Faber, Jose Aldo and Seth Dikun each earned $10,000 "Fight Night" bonuses for their outstanding performances at WEC 41. Faber and Brown earned "Fight of the Night" honors for their back and forth featherweight title bout which saw the champ, Brown, retain his title with a win over Faber. Despite fighting through a broken right hand, Faber never gave up over the five round affair and made the fight interesting throughout. Brown used his strength and power, however, to take down Faber and often got the better of stand-up exchanges. Aldo took home "Knockout of the Night" for his quick and impressive eight-second flying knee knockout over Cub Swanson. WEC 41 produced six submission stoppages and chose Dikun's flying triangle choke victory over Rolando Perez as its "Submission of the Night."
