WEC 41 is officially in the books, and what a spectacular night of fights! The event took place last night, June 7, in front of a near capacity crowd at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.

In the main event of the evening, Mike Brown retained his WEC featherweight title by beating former champ, Urijah Faber. Faber opened the fight as the aggressor and fired off his right hand at will landing punches through Brown's defense and utilizing explosive speed to overcome Brown's power. Brown would go on to take Faber down many times, but Faber was able to work his way back to his feet. Early on, Faber broke his right hand on the head of Brown forcing him to use only elbows and open palm strikes for the duration of the fight. Brown went on to batter Faber with powerful blows to the head and body. Faber gave Brown a scare in the last round with two separate guillotine choke attempts but couldn't lock them in with his badly damaged hand. Ultimately, two of the judges had it scored 49-46, with the third scoring it 48-47, all in Brown's favor.

In the co-main event, Jose Aldo proved himself worthy to be listed as the number one featherweight contender by defeating Cub Swanson via spectacular TKO just 8 seconds into their bout. Aldo opened the fight by immediately running across the cage and landing an unorthodox double flying knee that connected on a ducking Swanson. Aldo proceeded to pounce on Swanson with a couple meaningless left hands before referee Steve Mazzagatti stepped in to stop the bout. The knee left Swanson with a cut on the bottom of his left eyelid and a gash above his left eyebrow. Aldo picked up his eighth straight win and fifth inside the WEC, with all wins coming by either knockout or TKO.

Top lightweight contender Donald Cerrone defeated WEC newcomer James Krause via first-round submission. Krause took Cerrone down on several occasions and Cerrone countered with numerous submission attempts but Krause managed to escape them all before the fighters engaged in a stand-up battle that saw Cerrone landed a left hook followed by a straight right hand that put Krause down. Cerrone quickly took Krause's back and locked in a fight ending choke. Cerrone is expected to fight WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner in the fall.

Featherweight prospect Josh Grispi delivered a heart-wrenching loss to MMA legend Jens Pulver via first round submission just 33 seconds into the first round. Pulver went for a takedown in the opening moments but left his head in the wrong position. Grispi wrenched Pulver's head in a guillotine choke until Pulver eventually tapped out. The loss marks Pulver's fourth straight and Grispi is now riding a 9-fight win streak. Afterwords Pulver admitted that the fight might be his last, hinting about  a possible retirement.

In a notable preliminary card bout, former UFC lightweight and TUF 5 runner-up Manny Gamburyan made a successful WEC debut as he defeated John Franchi via unanimous decision.
