The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday revealed the post-fight drug test results for nine fighters who competed on the WEC 44 fight card, which took place on Nov. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV.
All drug tests came back clean and included the following fighters: WEC 44 main event fighters Jose Aldo and Mike Brown as well as Manny Gamburyan, Karen Darabedyan, Shane Roller, Kamal Shalorus, L.C. Davis, Ricardo Lamas and Frank Gomez.
The tests screen for steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, as well as 'drugs of abuse' such as cocaine, marijuana and heroin.
Athletic commissions tend to randomly select individuals for testing, but typically test the main event fighters and fight night winners, as well as those who have failed tests in the past.
In the WEC 44 main event, Jose Aldo defeated Mike Brown via second round TKO to capture the WEC featherweight title. In the co-main event bout, TUF 5 cast member Manny Gamburyen inched closer to a title shot, as he scored a unanimous decision win over fellow UFC veteran Leonard Garcia in another featherweight feature.
Also featured on the main card, WEC newcomer Karen Darabedyan notched a split decision win over former WEC lightweight champion Rob McCullough and Shane Roller took home "Submission of the Night" for his third-round submission win over Danny Castillo in a very crucial lightweight bout. Also, WEC newcomer Kamal Shalorus defeated fellow newcomer Will Kerr via first-round TKO in the opening bout of the televised main card.
The WEC 44 event drew an official attendance of 1,845 for a live gate of $131,200.
