The UFC's sister promotion, WEC, will close out the year with two straight events at home in Las Vegas, NV.
First up is the previosly announced WEC 44 event, which takes place on Nov. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort and will feature a WEC featherweight title bout between current champion Mike Brown and challenger, Jose Aldo.
A month later, the organizations last event of the year will be the as of yet unannounced WEC 45, which is expected to take place on Dec. 19 at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. News of WEC 45's date and location was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
WEC 45 was expected to be headlined by a WEC lightweight title unification bout between lightweight champ Jamie Varner and interim champ Ben Henderson, however, the bout could be pushed back because Henderson still has lingering injuries from his WEC 43 bout with Donald Cerrone. The WEC is contemplating booking Cerrone vs. Varner II if Henderson will be out for a long period of time.
With WEC mainstays Urijah Faber and Miguel Torres not slated to be back in action until early next year, WEC 45 could be headlined by WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles' first title defense, which is likely to come against top contender Dominick Cruz.
In related WEC 45 news, IFL veteran Bart Palaszewski has confirmed his participation on the card according to MMA FanHouse.
Palaszewski (31-13) has lost two straight WEC bouts to Ricardo Lamas and Anthony Njokuani respectivly. His loss to Lamas at April's WEC 40 event came in his last appearance with the promotion. He most recently was allowed to take a fight outside the WEC, facing and defeating Tyler Combs at last Saturday's XFO 32 event in New Munster, WI.
Palaszewski has put together a sub par 1-2 record since joining the WEC, with his lone win coming in his promotional debut against Alex Karalexis. He has fought for other notable promotions during his seven year career such as Shooto, Extreme Challenge, SuperBrawl, Adrenaline MMA and the now-defunct IFL promotion, where he went 8-4 during a long 12-fight stint from April 2006 to April 2008.
"Bartimus" has finished 24 of his 31 career wins and he holds notable career wins over the likes of Luke Caudillo, Jeff Cox, John Gunderson, Steve Bruno and Ryan Schultz.
