WEC: Brown vs. Faber 2 Preview
by Mike Williams on June 07, 2009

Tonight we'll see four main card fights in which the eight fighters involved have a combined record of 124-22.  Two of those six fighters are the top two featherweights in the world and one of them is the WEC featherweight champion.  WEC: Brown vs. Faber 2 has all the makings of an instant classic.

Former featherweight champion Urijah Faber is one of the most popular and most recognizable fighters in all of mma.  The "California Kid" was riding a wave that included a thirteen fight winning streak spanning four years until the unthinkable happened; a first round TKO loss compliments of a bomb of a right hand by Mike Brown and for the first time in a long time, Faber left the cage without a belt.  He has since defeated former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver in a first round submission victory, locking on a rear naked choke after stunning Pulver with a huge left to the body.  Brown was equally impressive in a win over Leonard Garcia, choking his opponent out in the first round with an arm triangle.  The winner of this one will not only leave ARCO Arena with the championship belt, but also with the title of "the greatest featherweight in the world".

At lightweight, the popular "Cowboy" Donald Cerrone takes on undefeated James Krause.  Cerrone suffered the first loss of his career in January in a tremendous battle with champion Jamie Varner.  Cerrone had Varner in trouble and it looked like he was on his way to gold when he landed a knee to the head while Varner was down.  Varner was unable to continue and was given the decision when the knee was ruled accidental.  Krause will be making his WEC debut after much success in the midwest.  Of his ten wins only one of his opponents was able to take him into the second round.

Jens Pulver enters his fight vs. Josh Grispi having lost three in a row and five of his last six.  "Lil Evil" has had a tremendous career and remains dangerous to anybody with his heavy hands and experience.  This is by far the biggest fight of Grispi's career.  The 21 year old has been impressive and he'll be out to show the world that he can compete with the best.

Jose Aldo vs. Cub Swanson is a battle that could lead the winner to a shot at the featherweight title.  Aldo is a division top 10 in most rankings while on a 7-0 run.  Known best for his punching power, Aldo has won fights in a variety of ways and would love a shot at the winner of Brown vs. Faber.  Swanson is also very versatile, his last loss suffered at the hands of Pulver at WEC 31 after stringing together eleven in a row prior to that.
