"Joseph Benavidez and Rani Yahya is a classic fight of a stand-up guy versus a ground guy. Joseph Benavidez is a great striker, excellent wrestler, very fast and more importantly, very hard to hold down. When you watch Joseph Benavidez fight, he hits the ground - he bounces right back up. Rani Yahya on the other hand is one of the best jiu-jitsu players in the business. Yahya can get you to the ground and submit anyone in the sport. In the WEC, we joke, saying he's got velcro on his gloves because once he grabs you, you don't get away." - Reed Harris
Rani Yahya has finished 14 out of his 15 wins via submission. In his last fight against John Hosman at WEC 42, he was victorious by north/south choke in round one. In addition, in his five WEC fights, he has won Submission of the Night honors three times.
Joseph Benavidez, Yahya's opponent at the upcoming WEC 45, has also had his fair share of submission victories, as he has done so in six out of his 10 fights. However, the American, who currently holds a 10-1 record, is primarily a man who fights on his feet and throws in some wrestling, often resembling his training partner Urijah Faber.
Stylistically, Yahya vs. Benavidez will be a great bantamweight match up for fans. WEC 45 will take place on Dec. 19, at The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas, NV. The headlining bout will be a lightweight fight between Donald Cerrone and Ed Ratcliff. Other bouts on the main event card include a bantamweight battle between Scott Jorgensen and Takeya Mizugaki, and a lightweight clash between Anthony Njokuani and Chris Horodecki.
