Welterweight Rick Story signs new four-fight contract with UFC
by Jacob Camargo on January 20, 2010

The UFC has rewarded up-and-comer Rick Story with a new-four fight contract following his second straight win with the promotion.

"I'm very happy to be fighting in the UFC," Story told MMAjunkie on Tuesday. "I hope to go through this contract as fast as my last one."

It is not yet known when Story's first fight under his new UFC contract will come.

Story signed his first contract with the UFC in January 2009 and was used as a back-up in case Karo Parisyan withdrew last minute from his welterweight bout against Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 92.

Story suffered a unanimous decision loss to John Hathaway in his UFC debut in June at UFC 99. He rebounded in his sophomore fight, however, by scoring a very impressive second-round submission win over Brian Foster.

The fight with Foster earned Story two fight night bonuses, with the two awards totaling a staggering $130,000 in extra pay. Story along with his opponent, Foster, each took home $65,000, as they were awarded "Fight of the Night" for their back-and-forth welterweight battle. Story pocketed another $65,000, as he was awarded "Submission of the Night" for his arm triangle choke submission win over Foster.

Story most recently scored a unanimous decision win over Jesse Lennox at UFC Fight Night 20 on Jan. 11.

Prior to joining the UFC, the Washington native fought for other notable promotions such as Alaska Fighting Championship, Elite Warriors Championship and SportFight. He has put together a 9-3 MMA record since turning pro in November 2007 and has finished five of his nine career wins, with his other four wins coming by decision. Story, who fights out of Brave Legion Fight Club, holds other notable career wins over Brandon Melendez, Jake Ellenberger and Ryan Healy.
