Saturday night figures to offer a little bit of everything. You have UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar looking to prove his victory over the man he took the belt from, B.J. Penn was not a fluke. Then there is hometown hero Kenny Florianseeking a third crack at the light weight championship in a number one contenders bout with Gray Maynard.
Last but not least, UFC fans will be treated to an MMA vs. Boxing bout as former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Randy Couture will take on multi-division boxing champion James Toney. Couture is one of the best fighters to have ever graced the octagon and he will look to silence Toney once and for all. Toney claims he could murder someone while wearing four ounce gloves, but will he get a chance before Couture drops him on his head?
Who's in danger of losing their job with a loss on Saturday night? Let's take a moment and find out.
Soto made his UFC debut at UFC 111against Matthew Riddle. He was disqualified for landing an illegal up-kick in the third round. Soto and his opponent Nick Osipczakshare Riddle as a common opponent. Osipczak defeated Riddle by third round TKO at UFC 105. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, Soto is trained by popular UFC lightweight Kurt Pellegrino and works as an instructor at his gym in NJ. Unfortunately for Soto his association with "Batman" won't be enough to keep him around should he lose on Saturday night.
Not too many fighters are given an opportunity to continue fighting in the UFC after suffering three consecutive losses. Miller was given a reprieve by Dana White after losing his third bout in a row to Michael Bisping at UFC 114. Losing to Chael Sonnen, Demian Maiaand Bisping is nothing to be ashamed of, but if Miller loses to John Salter he won't get another opportunity to right his ship. It's been a difficult two years for Miller as he has not only had to deal with the losses, but his wife lost their first child in May of 2009 and their second child was born with complications. That along with the caliber of opponents he has faced is enough to give the guy a pass. Miller has to win Saturday or he will get cut.
"Godzilla" has found his way back to the UFC after three years of fighting on the regional circuit. Many of you may remember Ruediger as the guy who appeared on season five of The Ultimate Fighter who was eating ice cream shortly before he was to weigh in for his fight. He had issues cutting the weight and even tried a colonic which didn't help him at all. He was cut from the show by White the next day. He has won his last six fights, but faces his toughest test to date in Joe Lauzon. This may be one and done for Gabe as he was brought in as a late injury replacement for Terry Etim. We could see him brought back as long as he puts on a good performance or he could avoid the stress and upset Lauzon in front of his hometown fans.
What business does an out of shape, 41-year-old boxer have fighting MMA legend Randy Couturein an MMA match? Yes Toney...
