Promoted up from his slot on the event's prelims, bantamweight Will Campuzano will reportedly replace the injured Charlie Valencia and face Eddie Wineland on the televised main card portion of the WEC 49 card in June.
Valencia was forced out the bout against Wineland after he suffered a shoulder injury in training.
Campuzano was originally supposed to face Rafael Raebello on the un-aired preliminary portion of WEC 49. Rebello is expected to remain on the card and will receive a new opponent shortly.
Campuzano most recently scored a unanimous decision win over Coty Wheeler at WEC 46 in January in a bout that earned both men the night's "Fight of the Night" bonus for their exciting, back and forth bantamweight battle.
Prior to the win, Campuzano suffered the first loss of his young career in his last bout, as he was defeated in his WEC debut by Damacio Page via first round submission at WEC 43 in October. He has put together a nearly perfect 7-1 MMA record since making his pro debut in July 2008, scoring stoppages in all but one of his seven wins.
Wineland (16-6-1) is 4-1 in his last five bouts, which includes back-to-back WEC wins over Manny Tapia and most recently George Roop at WEC 46 in January. His lone loss over that span came against Rani Yahya at WEC 40 last April.
Wineland has put together a 3-2 WEC record in three stints with the promotion, becoming the first-ever WEC bantamweight champion by defeating Antonio Banuelos. However, he went on to lose the belt to Chase Beebe in his only title defense.
WEC 49 event takes place on June 20 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and it will be the promotion's Canadian debut. The event will be headlined by a very interesting lightweight bout between rising contender Kamal Shalorus and former lightweight champion Jamie Varner.
