With the WEC 43 event less then three weeks away, the Oct. 10 fight card has undergone yet another shuffle as promotional newcomer Will Campuzano will step in for the injured Akitoshi Tamura and take on Damacio Page.
Tamura's injury exit from the bout and Campuzano's insertion in the bout was first reported by Ariel Helwani of Versus.com. The nature and severity of Tamura's injury was not disclosed.
The crucial Tamura vs. Page bantamweight bout was to be featured on the WEC 43 televised main card. However, Tamura's withdrawal from the bout and Campuzano stepping in to replace him against Damacio Page won't cause the bout to be demoted to the non-televised preliminary portion of the card.
Campuzano most recently defeated Tim Snyder at Urban Rumble Championships 4 in May. The Dallas-based fighter has put together a 6-0 MMA record since his professinal debut just last July. All six of his wins have been via stoppage.
Page (11-4) is coming off a devastating 18-second knockout victory over Marcos Galvao at WEC 39 and is now 2-1 in his last three bouts, which have all taken place in the WEC. He previously lost to current WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles at WEC 35, and defeated Scott Jorgensen in his WEC debut at WEC 32. The Jackson's Submission Fighting product has finished 10 of his 11 career wins and he holds notable wins over the likes of Stephane Vigneault and Thierry Quenneville.
WEC 43 takes place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX, and will be headlined by a WEC interim lightweight title bout between Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson.
