The WEC today announced the addition of a bantamweight bout between Will Campuzano and Coty Wheeler to the un-aired preliminary portion of its WEC 46 event on Jan. 10 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
The WEC also confirmed two previously reported bouts for the preliminary portion of WEC 46, including bantamweights Wagnney Fabiano vs. Frank Gomez, which heads the night's preliminary bouts, and lightweights Dave Jansen vs. Kamal Shalorus.
Campuzano (6-1) suffered the first loss of his young career in his last bout, as he was defeated in his WEC debut by Damacio Page via first round submission at WEC 43 in October. Prior to the loss, he won the first six bouts of his career to get the WEC's attention. Campuzano has finished all of his six career wins.
Wheeler (10-2) also suffered a loss at October's WEC 43 event, as he was defeated by Charlie Valencia via unanimous decision. He was on a four-fight winning steak prior to the loss, which included his first win in the WEC over Del Hawkins at WEC 32. Wheeler holds a 1-2 WEC record, losing in his WEC debut against Ian McCall at WEC 30 in September 2007.
Wheeler has competed for an array of notable promotions during his three-year career including Ring of Fire, King of the Cage, Fightworld and Ultimate Warrior Challenge. He has finished all but one of his 10 career wins including eight by submission.
WEC 46 is headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner and interim title holder Ben Henderson. Also, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber will take on rising contender Raphael Assuncao in the co-main event.
