When Paul Daley and Tyron Woodley step into the cage to face each other on July 30, the victor might get a title shot for Strikeforce's vacant welterweight championship according to bloodyelbow.com.
"I would say the winner of that fight we're definitely keeping our eye on. I think by the end of the year, you'll see a title fight happening," Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker, said.
Daley (27-10-2) will be looking to rebound from a loss to Nick Diaz via tko during their welterweight title bout back in April earlier this year. Daley has been 8-2 in his last 10 fights, winning six from tko/ko stoppages.
Woodley (8-0) is undefeated and won five of his fights via submission. As a former title contender, Daley is a noticeable step up in competition for Woodley.
Also concerning the welterweight landscape in Strikeforce is Coker's announcement of signing a top level welterweight to its roster. Coker failed to specifically address who this might be.
"We're about to sign another fighter that until it's done I don't want to say who it is. It's possible the new fighter could immediately fight for a title. Maybe we'll give him one fight, and we'll see what happens," Coker added.
Daley vs. Woodley on July 30 will be a part of the main card headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko fighting Dan Henderson.
