Current Shark Fights middleweight champion Gerald Harris is in talks to step in for the injured Tim Credeur and face Mike Massenzio at UFC Fight Night 20 on Jan. 11 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. News of Harris replacing Credeur was first reported by MMAMadness.com.
As reported earlier by MMA FanHouse, Credeur was forced to withdraw from his UFN 20 preliminary card bout with Mike Massenzio due to an undisclosed injury. Credeur most recently was defeated by Nate Quarry at UFC Fight Night 19 in September. The loss snapped a six-fight winning he had put together which included wins in his first three UFC fights over Nick Catone, Nate Loughran and Cale Yarbrough.
Harris was a cast member on the seventh season of the Ultimate Fighter, where he was a member of Team Rampage. He made his way into the house by defeating Mike Madallo, however, he would be eliminated from the competition in the next round by eventual TUF 7 champ Amir Sadollah.
Harris (13-2) is currently on a seven-fight winning streak, most recently defeating former UFC fighter Nissen Osterneck at Shark Fights 6 in September to become the promotion's middleweight champion. He has not suffered a loss since being defeated by Benji Radach at an IFL event in August 2007.
The C3 Fights and Freestyle Cage Fighting veteran has finished 11 of his 13 career wins. He holds other notable victories during his three-year career over the likes of Robert McDaniel, Curtis Stout and Travis Doerge.
Massenzio (11-3) hasn't fought since UFC 92 in December 2008, where he was defeated by CB Dollaway. He has spent the majority of 2009 recuperating from neck and knee injuries. Prior to his loss at UFC 92, Massenzio was victorious in his UFC debut defeating Drew McFedries via first-round submission at UFC Fight Night 15 last September.
Massenzio has fought the majority of his four-year career with Reality Fighting and Ring of Combat, fighting a combined 10 of his 14 career bouts with the two promotions. He has scored stoppage victories in seven of his 11 career wins and holds notable career victories over the likes of Dante Rivera and Dan Miller.
Headlining the Spike TV televised event, UFC Fight Night 20, is a crucial lightweight bout between TUF 5 alum Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz. In addition, undefeated lightweights Efrain Escudero and Evan Dunham will meet in the co-featured bout of the evening.
