Well-traveled veteran middleweight Joe Doerksen will make his return to the UFC after two-years away from the promotion.
Doerksen will step in on short notice to replace the injured Tim Credeur and faces Tom Lawlor on the un-aired preliminary portion of the UFC 113 event in May. News of the change was first reported by Sherdog.com.
The nature and severity of Credeur's injury is not yet known, and there is no timetable for his return. It is the second time this year that he was forced off of an event, as he was previously forced to withdraw from UFC Fight Night 20 in January due to an undisclosed injury.
Doerksen (44-12) is currently riding a five-fight winning streak, most recently defeating Chad Herrick at KOTC: "Bad Boys II" last Friday. Prior to the streak, he lost three straight including a loss to Paulo Filho in a WEC middleweight title bout at WEC 29 in August 2007. He also dropped back-to-back losses in the UFC against Ed Herman at UFC 78 and Jason MacDonald at UFC 84 in April 2008, which led to his release from the organization.
Doerksen sports 1-5 record with the UFC, scoring his lone Octagon win over Patrick Cote, while suffering other UFC losses to Nate Marquardt, Joe Riggs and Matt Lindland. He has fought for an array of other notable promotions throughout his 11-year career such as Superbrawl, IFL, Extreme Challenge, Sengoku and DEEP.
Lawlor (6-2) most recently suffered a close split decision loss to Aaron Simpson at UFC Fight Night 20 in January in a bout that earned both men an extra $30,000 for the "Fight of the Night" bonus. He previously won three straight fights, which included wins in his first two UFC fights against Kyle Kingsbury and C.B. Dollaway.
"The Ultimate Fighter" season 8 cast member has been competing professionally since March 2007, and has finished all but one of his six career wins.
UFC 113 takes place on May 1 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is headlined by a light-heavyweight title rematch between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. In addition, welterweight contenders Paul Daley and Josh Koscheck will square off with a possible title shot on the line.
