Middleweights Yushin Okami and Chael Sonnen will look to climb further up the divisional ladder when they face each other at UFC 104. The bout was announced on the UFC Japan website.
Okami is currently riding a three-fight win streak inside the octagon, with his most recent win coming against Dean Lister at UFC 92 in December. He hasn't fought since then due to a knee injury that forced him to withdraw from proposed bout against Dan Miller at UFC 98 in May. Okami sports a 7-1 UFC record, with notable wins over Alan Belcher, Mike Swick and Jason MacDonald. He suffered his lone octagon loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 72. Okami holds the distinction of being the last man to hand UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva a loss.
Sonnen rebounded from a first round submission loss to Demian Maia at UFC 95 earlier this year, by defeating Dan Miller at UFC 98 in May. Prior to his return to the UFC, Sonnen fought in the WEC, where he went 2-1, and in his last fight with the promotion, defeated WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho. In his first stint with the UFC from October 2005 to May 2006, he went 1-2, with losses Renato Sobral and Jeremy Horn. Overall, Sonnen has a 23-10-1 MMA record, with notable wins in his seven-year career over Jason Miller, Amar Suloev, Renato Sobral and Trevor Prangley.
UFC 104 takes place on October 24 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. The event's headliner is a UFC light heavyweight title bout between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez will also battle it out on the main card to determine the UFC number one heavyweight contender.
